蜜桃社鈥檚 Spring FLEX Event Inspires Faculty with Equity-Focus Minded Discussions and Training

Faculty, classified professionals, and employees at 蜜桃社 (RCC) gathered on Friday, February 7, 2025, for a successful Spring FLEX event, featuring a day of insightful discussions, professional development, and training focused on student success and equity-driven education.
Designed to enhance teaching practices and support student success, FLEX featured a diverse lineup of workshops, discussions, and interactive sessions. The event provided faculty with valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, explore innovative strategies, and strengthen connections within the academic community. The event, held in DL-121, opened with welcoming remarks and an introduction of RCC鈥檚 new faculty members, setting a collaborative tone for the day.
Key highlights included:
- Keynote Address by Dr. Jos茅 M. Aguilar-Hern谩ndez of Cal Poly Pomona, who delivered a powerful presentation on Cultivating an HSI Identity. His talk explored the historical and contemporary significance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and emphasized strategies for fostering true 鈥渟ervingness鈥 beyond enrollment.
- Student Voices Panel, where faculty heard firsthand about student-identified barriers and opportunities. The discussion, led by the Office of Institutional Research and the Dean of Equity, Inclusion, and Engagement. The presenters provided valuable insights into equity gaps and solutions to better serve RCC鈥檚 diverse student body.
- Immigration Resources at RCC, featuring legal counsel and college leaders who outlined RCCD鈥檚 approach to supporting students and employees facing immigration-related challenges. Attendees gained critical knowledge about available legal resources and student protections.
- Building an AANHPI-Centered Campus, presented by Dr. Virginia Loh-Hagan of San Diego State University, focused on fostering a sense of belonging for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander students through ethnic studies and culturally relevant programming.
- Professional Development Workshops, including an RCCD application workshop for aspiring faculty, DE Q&A sessions on online teaching tools, and division meetings aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration.
